THE PATTERN ROUND UP // TPC2

ABOUT TPC2//

Asymmetry is back, back, back again and so what better time to re-introduce you to a vintage TPC2 pattern - the ‘Asymmetric hem dress’. As always inspired by the runway, this pattern was designed to fill the gap in the pattern market, creating a more wearable version of those we’d seen on the catwalk back in AW16. Structural, yet feminine, this is still one of our all time favourite patterns, now read on to get inspired and don’t forget to check out the bottom of the post for a discount code so you can make your own.

INSPIRATION //

We know an asymmetric dress isn’t to everyones taste, it can be a bit visually distracting to the eye and hard to style too. Asymmetry was a trend seen across the catwalks for AW16, but when it came to designing this dress there were only a couple of pieces that heavily inspired the final pattern.

The feature that stood out on both original designs that we wanted to replicate was the high-low spiral effect hemline. Both had differing bodice silhouettes and designs, so these were merged into one.

Here are a few from our design inspiration bank:

TOILE// DEVELOPMENT

I spent a longer amount of time developing this pattern than I had originally imagined I would. Changing the neckline and the panelling to be in a more flattering position.

At one stage I was playing around with design tape thinking about adding skirt layers.
