GLOSSARY//B

B is for Baste

verb. basting/basted

A temporary long, loose running stitch used to hold 2 pieces together before they are machine sewn. Especially useful when stitching tricky pieces together, for examples curves, gathers or when inserting a zip. It can also be used as a way of marking a position on the fabric. The stitch itself is usually done by hand but can be done using the long stitch on a sewing machine. It is removed after the permanent sewing is done.
